Free and Pro

Free: one canister with its sticker, dial-in and doses, and every coffee you add. Pro adds up to 12 canisters, iCloud sync, the favorites widget and Family Sharing. It's a monthly or yearly subscription (the yearly plan starts with a 1-week free trial), or a one-time purchase.

Moving Pro to a new iPhone

In Umber, open Settings, tap Restore or redeem on the Umber Pro card, then Restore purchases, signed in with the same Apple Account. With Family Sharing your whole family gets Pro, and each person keeps their own canisters and coffees.

Changing or cancelling a subscription

In Umber, tap the Umber Pro card at the top of Settings, then Manage subscription. Or on your iPhone, open Settings → your name → Subscriptions. Your canisters and coffees stay after Pro ends.

iCloud sync

Sync comes with Pro and starts the next time you open Umber after buying it. Your iPhone needs to be signed in to iCloud.

NFC stickers

• Any NTAG213, NTAG215 or NTAG216 NFC sticker works. They're sold online in packs and don't come with Umber. The free plan's canister can have one; with Pro, each of up to 12 canisters can.
• Register a sticker from a canister: hold its jar on the Canisters screen, choose Name & tags, then Register NFC sticker.
• Stickers don't work stuck directly on metal. Put the sticker on the lid, or use an anti-metal sticker.
• iPhone shows a notification when you tap a sticker outside the app. To see the canister card straight away, set up a Shortcuts automation: Name & tags → Set up tap to open walks you through it.
• Forgetting a sticker leaves its link on the chip, so tapping it still opens Umber. To stop that, erase it: Forget sticker offers Erase and forget, and Settings › NFC stickers › Erase a sticker clears one you've already forgotten. If you set up a Shortcuts automation for a sticker, delete it in Shortcuts › Automation too: Shortcuts knows the sticker by its chip, so it keeps running after an erase.

Scanning a bag

Umber reads labels on your iPhone. With Apple Intelligence it also reads scales drawn as graphics, such as intensity sliders. Without it, Umber reads the printed text. Fields marked "Check this" were hard to read.

After the front and back, Umber asks whether the bottom has a roast date. Hold the stamp or sticker in the frame, and check the date it reads before using it. Only the date is kept, not the photo.

Siri

Try "Pull a shot in Umber" or "What's my grind in Umber". Settings → Siri & Shortcuts in the app lists every phrase and shows how to make your own.
